Dr. David M. Berman

With all that is happening: the socialist take over, moral decay, financial ruin, terrorism, and the general rise of tyranny, we may be living in what could turn out to be the worst of times. Time will tell as to just how bad it gets but it is clear to me that we will at least suffer hyper inflation, and the nation will be bankrupt.

America was founded on the principles of liberty: personal responsibility, commitment to freedom, personal property rights, freedom of worship, limited government etc. There can be no doubt that we have completely violated the Constitution’s original intent. A few examples would be”

1)      The First Amendment – Political correctness is now regulating speech. There is an all out assault o n the individual right to speak politically and religiously.

2)      The Second amendment – Gross violations of the right to bear arms are found in the regulation of firearms and the restrictions of where and when you can buy, possess and carry one.

3)      The Fourth Amendment – We see this one violated almost every day as the I.R.S. has the power to seize assets without due possess of law. The I.R.S. simply decides to freeze a person’s bank account with no warrant, no legal charges, and this is a violation of the Fourth, and the Fifth Amendment.

4)       The Tenth Amendment – Perhaps this one has been violated in the most flagrant ways. The Tenth Amendment states the following:

“The powers not delegated to the United States by the Constitution, nor prohibited by it to the States, are reserved to the States respectively, or to the people.”

All we have to do is look at every place the federal government has put regulation and money into. If the power is not specifically given by the Constitution, they have violated this Amendment. Everything from education, to health care, to local public works programs, to numerous projects, they have no constitutional authority in these whatsoever! States are supposed to have separate powers.

The massive, ineffective, inefficient federal government intrusion has caused the chaos we are now in. This, along with the individual ignorance of the principles of liberty and personal responsibility has led us to confusion and disorder. What do we do now?

Although I am sad about the state of our nation, I also see this as an opportunity. The gods of money, government, materialism, selfishness, and pride are falling as we all see that trust in such only leads to disappointment. Those of us who believe in the Bible, and the principles of liberty found in it that brought us the Declaration of Independence, and the Constitution, are now given a set of circumstances that we must take advantage of. We must not simply curse the darkness only, we must also light the flames of liberty by teaching the principles that this great nation was founded on. We must preach the gospel and bring our fellow countrymen back to the understanding of the foundations of this, our Republic. It is only through the free will of all men and women choosing to come back to the Biblical principles this nation was founded on, that we will once again be “one nation under God.”

I see this present situation as a catalyst for conversations with unbelievers. I see this as an opportunity to speak of the one true God of Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob. I have been and plan to continue to seize this opportunity to draw the contrasts between all the false gods that our culture has been worshipping, and the one true God of the Bible. Join me in taking this opportuni ty to share truth with everyone you come into contact with.

History teaches us that the falling of false gods often leaves people more open to the truth. Some will harden their hearts with the pride and arrogance of the human will. But many will be searching for truth. If the Christian only curses the darkness, the searcher for truth will not hear it. Is our nation in serious trouble? Have we gone too far? Will we ever turn back? These are questions I can’t answer however I can answer this next question; what is our call and responsibility in these times as believers? It is our responsibility to love people, help people, care for people, and the way we do that first and foremost is to wisely share the truth of God’s Word. We must also be compassionate and have mercy. We must do our best to show our love by also trying to meet natural needs as well as spiritual.

I do not know if it is over for America. However, as Winston Churchill was once said; “Never, never, never give up” I want to encourage you that God is still on the throne, and he is still the soul saving, miraculous, omnipotent, omnipresent, omniscient, faithful King of kings, and Lord of lords! Share your faith with wisdom and love. Stand and see the salvation of your God. Remember this:

Ephesians 3:20-21 “Now unto him that is able to do exceeding abundantly above all that we ask or think, according to the power that worketh in us, Unto him be glory in the church by Christ Jesus throughout all ages, world without end. Amen.”
